Michael and Stephanie Benison are the founders of Prosperity Building Futures, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through trade skills and entrepreneurial opportunities. With over 40 years of combined experience, they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their work.
Stephanie has been a successful entrepreneur for over 20 years, starting her own tax office 20 years ago. She became the first African-American female to create an Income Tax in a Box franchise. Over the years, she has built and managed several businesses, including an eight-year landscaping business, and continues to lead with passion and determination.
Michael, a union carpenter with 20 years of experience, previously ran his own carpentry business before merging it with Prosperity Property Services. Together, they are dedicated to providing young people with the tools, training, and opportunities they need to succeed in business and the trades.
Stephanie and Michael’s journey is rooted in passion, resilience, and a commitment to empowering others. Stephanie’s entrepreneurial journey began right after high school when she started running her family’s tax business. This early experience sparked her passion for entrepreneurship and led her to create the first African-American woman-owned “Income Tax in a Box” franchise.
Michael’s entry into the carpentry world revealed a lack of diversity, particularly for minorities and women. This gap inspired him to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups to thrive in the industry.
Their journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been driven by the belief that with the right support, anyone can succeed.
Together, Stephanie and Michael are committed to breaking down barriers in business and the trades. They are focused on creating pathways for minorities and women to succeed by providing mentorship, education, and opportunities that were once unavailable to people like them.
